Independence Fire crews responded to a kitchen fire in an apartment building in the 600 block of W. Maple just before 1:00 a.m. According to police scanner traffic, the fire was quickly extinguished. All residents were allowed to return to their apartments with the exception of the occupants of the damaged unit.
