Detectives are continuing to seek information regarding an unsolved homicide of transgender victim. On September 19, 2020 Independence police responded to a homicide investigation 13th Street and Brookside Avenue in Independence. At that time, the victim was identified as Carlos D. Burnett. Since then they have learned that the victim, a transgender woman, identified herself as Aerrion Burnett. Detectives also learned that she had contact with family members around 4:00 PM on Friday the 18th, the day before she was found deceased from a gunshot wound, in a grassy area near the roadway. The motive of this homicide is still unknown.
