Independence Missouri Police Officer Shot

An Independence police officer was shot in the head after responding to a call at 8th & Carlisle. Officers had responded to the report of a shooting around 11:10 p.m. where a man was reportedly shooting a rifle towards a house from his back yard. The suspect and officers exchanged fire. The officer was transported to the hospital where he was reported to be conscious and in stable condition. The suspect was transported to the hospital and died. The Misssouri Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting.
