The Independence Police Department today issued a health and public safety warning about pills laced with fentanyl. Over the past few days, first responders have seen overdoses involving pills that had been laced with fentanyl. They ask that you use caution if you locate any pills. Fentanyl can be absorbed through your skin. The pills encountered looked like normal prescription pills but were not and were pills that were reportedly purchased on the street. The advisory also states to only take pills from a pharmacy in the original pill bottle and if you locate any pills, they can be disposed of at a drop off site for safe destruction. There are regular drop offs scheduled throughout the year and some places have permanent drop off boxes. Do not flush medications.
