Independence Police Investigating Double Homicide

Independence police are investigating a double homicide in the 100 block of N. Huttig Avenue. At 6:30 a.m. today, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 500 block of S. Ash Ave. A vehicle with two occupants, one adult male and one adult female, crashed into a parked and unoccupied vehicle. Both occupants had gunshots wounds. Shortly thereafter, police received a call of shots fired in the 100 block N. Huttig Avenue. It was determined that this was the location of the shooting. Both injured subjects were transported to area hospitals but did not survive their injuries. The investigation is still active and the identities of the two victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin. This is the sixth homicide investigation in Independence, MO in 2021. The victims in this case are the sixth and seventh homicide victims of the year.
