An Independence police officer was injured around 8:00 p.m. yesterday U.S. 24 Highway & Winfrey. According to traffic heard over the police scanner, the officer was struck but there was no mention of whether the officer was inside of outside of his vehicle. Additional radio traffic indicated a possible intoxicated driver struck the officer. The condition of the officer is unknown but according to one source I spoke with, the officers injuries aren’t life threatening. A member of a Buckner community group on social media stated they saw a tanker truck at this location on its side around the time of the wreck. It’s unknown how many vehicles altogether were involved in the accident.
