KC Man Charged in Independence Homicide

A 29-year-old KC man has been charged in the fatal shooting March 29, 2022, of David Rove outside closed Independence gasoline station, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Aaron L Simmon Jr., dob: 3/15/1993, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Acton.

According to court records, Independence Police Department officers were dispatched on the evening of March 29, 2022, to the area of the 4200 block of South Noland Road on a shooting. Officers found the victim, suffering from multiple gunshots. Emergency personnel quickly determined the victim was deceased. A witness told police that the victim had talked to the suspect just before the shooting when they encountered each other outside a closed gas station. The witness stated that after the suspect and victim had words with each other. the suspect shot the victim. A police search warrant was obtained to search the suspect’s residence and a gun found there was determined to be the weapon that was used to kill the victim.
