The Independence Police Department has announced the retirement of officer Ed Wisdom, who medically retired from a duty related injury effective March 1, 2021. Here is their announcement posted on social media:
“Officer Wisdom served for 25 years as a police officer with the Independence Police Department. He was hired by IPD in 1995 and assigned to the Patrol Division. In 1999 he transferred to the Special Operations Division and was assigned as a Task Force Officer with the Drug Enforcement Agency. In 2002 he was transferred to the Accident Investigations Unit. In 2009 he was assigned to the Selective Enforcement Unit (Motorcycle Unit) and has served in that position until his retirement. He has also served on the Crisis Negotiation Team and Honor Guard team. In his time at IPD, Officer Wisdom has received 59 documented letters of commendation, recognition and appreciation. He was the Missouri Narcotics Officer of the Year in 2000 and the police department’s Officer of the Month in October 2005. He also received two lifesaving award, one in 1998 and another in 2016, as well as a Special Unit Citation in 2017. In his role as a motorcycle officer, Officer Wisdom has been a part of almost every high profile and public event in Independence and the Kansas City metro area for the last 12 years. His presence will surely be missed. We wish Officer Wisdom well in his future endeavors and thank him for his many years of faithful service to this community.“
